After All by Livia - NEW
A lovely Jonathan POV Prodigal fic. Very sympathetic and understandable Jonathan Kent on family, his life with Martha, and Lex Luthor. Very lovely.

Bitter Strands by Beth (Smallville, Lionel, Roger)
Beth takes apart the possibilities before Zero was ever aired, and this--THIS is plausible.

At the Wire by Serrico
Doctor Hamiltonfic! He's creepy and strange and the entire story is surreal and damn GOOD. Some seriously haunting imagery wanders to and fro in here.

Breathing Amber by Sarah T - (Smallville, Lana, Lex)
It's one of the most chilling stories I've read in any fandom. There's a slow start, this beautiful town, the lovely Lana, and the faintest sense of unease that grows slowly through the story. A strangely sick feeling of not-change, and you really don't get it until the end.

For a characterization of first season Lana, it's marvelous. The girl who wants everything to remain the same--her friends, her hometown, her life. And Smallville becomes just that--a huge, unliving monument to a world that should be gone, all held by the power of her need and one man's determination.

Frankly, in all its subtlety, it's one of the most powerful stories I've ever read, and it creeps me out EVERY time.

Chloe: Year One by liviapenn
She's a fic TEASE. A fascinating Alternate History Chloe in Gotham story, with so many damn POSSIBLITIES. TEASE, I tell you. An excellent story all around.

Drunk, and in Charge of a Bicycle by Serrico - NEW
Oh wow. Lex sees Victoria again. First season-ish, post-Victoria fic. Oh. Funny.

A Good Year for the Corn by Beth (Smallville, Jonathan)
Jonathan Kent maybe would do anything for his family. Dear God, Bethy.

Delilah by Sarah T - NEW
I KNOW I read this a long time ago but can't remember when that was, but hey, always fun to run across a fic you love. Martha working for Lionel has brought up a lot of different issues in fandom, not least of which is Lionel's--thing for Martha that becomes most clear in Insurgence. I like this story because in a very intimate way, Martha becomes aware both of his attraction to her and, at least somewhat, her attraction to him, all in one second. Not to mention the man is beautifully manipulative and Sarah T's good at keeping it both dark and subtle.

Everything's Eventual by Lint (Smallville, Chloe)
Chloefic of the best kind.

Smallville is The Show of Rife Symbology and Destiny. From the first day to the last ep, that's what it IS. It's saying, we all know how this story ends, now let's see why. It also says, it was inevitable

Or, you know, maybe it *wasn't*.

I'm about to take serious license in interpretation, since this is specifically what I got out of it. Chloe takes stock of her life at the deathbed of her father, the unsatisfactory destiny she always expected. The one that from the beginning she always figured she would have. And that, in some ways, if not all ways, she created for herself.

It doesn't get any more bitter than this. She made a choice not to even compete (for Clark, for a different life, etc), because she didn't think she'd win. She chose not to fight an enemy that didn't even exist until she created it.

Because destiny, in this story? Was all about Chloe's choices. Nasty bit of catch-22.

He That Hath Ears by Sarah T
Plot. Grandmother Luthor plot, no less. Clark gets a new power, Lex has a scary grandmother, and Lionel gets bitched at. Plus? MotW that's interesting as hell. I love how she brings these things together and I simply love how she writes Clark. MUCH recommended for meaty reading enjoyment.

Home to Roost by Sarah T
Martha and Jonathan taught him so well, but Martha didn't think they taught him this. It cuts. And you know? It's true.

Look and See by Livia
Chloefic! I'm not spoiling on the plotline, because it must be read to be enjoyed, but this is an incredibly fun story. Just--guh. Loved it.

Many Waters by Livia Penn - (Smallville, Lex)

Right after Heat aired, Liv was talking about the scene at the end with Clark and Lex, then wandered off to point out the fact that as yet, Lex doesn't know that Desiree used krypto-powers to make him fall in love and Clark didn't tell him.

Thank you LIVIA. *g* Because we all know I'm recovering from Serious Clark Issues.

This was depressing. Very. Also reawakened my Clark Issues somewhat. But anyway, I was hoping she'd run with the idea. Livia explores Lex's reaction to the events of Heat with beautiful, painful, brutal thoroughness. I didn't need those little details, really. The tiny little things, like the wedding dress and finding the wedding night negligee and how falling in love for Lex always ends up so very, very badly. I DID NOT NEED TO PITY LEX MORE HERE!

Of Man's Desiring by Beth - NEW
A look at the complexities of Jonathan Kent. Wonderfully fair, beautifully written, and damned good. Highly recommended.

Protect and Serve by Sarah T
If you only read one Mercy-character story in your life, you should read this one. A fascinating, beautifully written view into the mind of one of Lex's bodyguards--it's unlike anything I've read before, and the tragedy is understated, elegant, and thought-provoking as hell. Possibly the best use of a semi-OC (since Mercy is comic canon) that I've read yet. Once again, Sarah blows my mind, but she does it with class.

Red is a Primary Color by ingrid - (Smallville, Pete)
Futurefic and powerful stuff. Pete in a moral abyss. A beautiful blend of comic and Smallville canon you won't want to miss.

Scotch Gambit by rivkat
In which Rivka creeps me out and gives a terrible, fascinating story. Martha--huh. Originall recced as War Games in Rivka's Lj, it's up and posted. I suggest reading.

Speak Loudly For Him by slodwick
I love how Slodwick writes Chloe, and in this? Pitch perfect. Lovely an dsad and true to her character. And heartbreaking as hell.
